Creator vs other ElevenLabs plans: which one fits?

The Free tier is limited to non-commercial testing and has no credit rollover. It is not the correct plan for monetized videos, paid client work, advertising or other commercial distribution.

Starter is the lowest current plan that includes a commercial license. It is the practical step for a small creator who needs paid-use rights, Instant Voice Cloning or more Studio capacity but does not need the larger Creator allowance or Professional Voice Cloning.

Creator suits longer or more frequent production and anyone specifically needing Professional Voice Cloning. The first month is currently discounted, but the budget decision should be based on the regular $22 renewal and the expected monthly credit use rather than on the opening charge alone.

How ElevenLabs credits work in real projects

All major creative products draw from one shared monthly pool. Spending credits on dubbing leaves fewer available for text to speech, and a long voice-isolation job can affect the same balance used for a later narration project. Plan comparisons are therefore most useful when they account for the complete workflow rather than only one feature.

The model changes the text-to-speech cost. ElevenLabs' current help material says Flash and Turbo models on self-serve plans generally use 0.5 credits per text character, while Multilingual V2 and several older models use one credit per character. Some shared Voice Library voices can also carry a multiplier.

The pricing page estimates roughly 10 text-to-speech minutes on Free, 30 on Starter, 121 on Creator, 600 on Pro, 1,800 on Scale and 6,000 on Business. These are planning estimates, not guaranteed recording lengths; voice, model, pacing, product choice and regeneration behaviour all affect real consumption.

Paid monthly and annual plans can roll unused credits forward, up to two normal monthly quotas, while the account stays on the same plan. That means the maximum balance can reach about three monthly quotas including the current allocation. Free credits do not roll over, and canceling or downgrading causes unused paid credits to expire when the change takes effect.

Commercial use, YouTube, podcasts and client work

The Free plan does not include a commercial license. ElevenLabs says material published from Free or while signed out must be non-commercial and attributed under its current rules. A paid plan includes a commercial license for eligible non-Beta services, provided the user holds the necessary intellectual-property rights and follows the Terms of Service and Prohibited Use Policy.

For YouTube, podcast sponsorships, audiobooks, courses, games, advertisements or client deliverables, the safe workflow is to generate the final material while an eligible paid subscription is active, keep a record of the plan and project date, and retain permission for every script, voice and source recording.

Paying for a plan does not create rights to someone else's voice, book, performance, music or video. It grants plan-level usage rights subject to ElevenLabs' rules; it does not replace copyright permission, performer consent, privacy law or a client contract.

Beta Services need special attention because ElevenLabs' current help guidance says Beta output cannot be used commercially or in production. Check whether a new feature is labelled Beta before building a paid project around it.

Voice cloning: Instant vs Professional and the consent check

Instant Voice Cloning is available from Starter and can create a usable representation from short audio samples. ElevenLabs' current documentation says less than two minutes can work, although clean and varied source recordings improve consistency. The result follows patterns in the sample rather than copying an existing recording word for word.

Professional Voice Cloning begins on Creator and uses a more involved process intended for higher fidelity. It is the relevant feature when a creator wants a durable production voice rather than a fast experiment, but the larger technical investment does not change the need for permission.

Only upload a voice when the speaker has agreed to the intended use and the recordings can legally be processed. Do not imitate a celebrity, customer, employee, family member or private person without appropriate authorization. Review the generated speech for wording, pronunciation and emotional delivery before release because a clone can say words the original speaker never said.

Text to speech, transcription and dubbing are different products

Text to speech turns a written script into spoken audio. Eleven v3 currently supports 74 languages, while other models have different language lists and credit rates. Choose a voice whose accent and speaking style fit the target audience, then test names and specialist terms rather than assuming every model pronounces them the same way.

Speech to text does the reverse. ElevenLabs' Scribe V2 documentation describes transcription across more than 90 languages, with word-level timestamps, speaker diarization, language detection and optional keyterm prompting. It is useful for captions, interviews, meetings and searchable podcast transcripts, but names and technical vocabulary still deserve human review.

Dubbing translates audio or video and attempts to preserve each speaker's delivery. The current Dubbing V2 documentation lists more than 90 languages and support for several file or URL sources. Free-plan dubs are watermarked, paid-tier dubs are not, and costs rise for each target language.

These tools can share an account balance but solve different problems. A creator making a French version of an English video may use transcription, translation and dubbing together; a narrator reading one English script may need only text to speech. Test the smallest complete workflow before buying credits for a large catalogue.

ElevenLabs in Canada: currency, taxes and French audio

ElevenLabs was available in Canada when checked. Its pricing page uses dollar signs and says listed prices exclude taxes, levies and duties. Confirm the billing currency and final converted amount in the live checkout rather than assuming the displayed number is Canadian dollars.

Canadian cards can add foreign-exchange costs when a subscription is billed in another currency, and sales tax can change the final charge. The useful comparison is the complete checkout amount for the chosen billing term, not only the monthly headline.

For Canadian French work, test the exact model, voice and wording before committing to a large project. ElevenLabs lists French in its multilingual tools, but pronunciation and accent depend on the model and voice. A short script containing local place names, bilingual brand names and regional vocabulary is a better test than a generic sentence.

Cancellation, renewal, refunds and unused credits

ElevenLabs subscriptions renew each billing cycle until canceled. The current cancellation instructions direct users to the Subscription area, then Manage subscription and Cancel subscription. Cancellation is scheduled for the end of the current cycle rather than removing access immediately.

When cancellation takes effect, the account returns to the Free plan and unused paid credits expire. The same loss of unused credits applies when downgrading. It is therefore worth scheduling large legitimate projects before the end date rather than leaving a paid balance unused.

ElevenLabs' current refund section says a refund can be requested within 14 days of payment only when no credit quota was used during that period. Using credits can remove that eligibility, so inspect the plan and checkout carefully before generating paid output.

Creator, Pro, Scale and Business can offer usage-based billing after included credits run out, while Free and Starter normally require waiting for renewal or upgrading. Anyone enabling additional usage should set a budget and review the usage screen because extra charges sit outside the base subscription price.

How to compare older ElevenLabs reviews with today's plans

An old ElevenLabs discussion may quote a $5 Starter plan, a 10,000-character allowance, an older language count or a feature that has moved between plans. ElevenLabs now calls the allowance credits, has changed plan prices and uses different rates across products and models. Always compare the post date with the current pricing page.
